There is no universal answer; it depends on your budget, destinations and time. 3–4 days is a short introduction to Tanzania's wildlife, 5–6 days is a good first safari covering selected highlights, 7–9 days gives an excellent balance of wildlife, travel time and different destinations, and 10+ days lets you explore at a relaxed pace and combine regions. Our advice: don't try to squeeze every famous park into one short trip.
For many first-time visitors, Tanzania's Northern Safari Circuit is an excellent starting point: Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, Lake Manyara and Arusha National Park. Many travellers then finish with a few days on Zanzibar.
Both can work well. A private safari gives you greater flexibility over your itinerary, pace, stops and daily schedule, which suits couples, families, photographers and honeymooners. Joining a small group can keep the overall cost lower and is a great way to meet other travellers. Tell us your budget, group size and travel style and we will recommend the most sensible option.
Tanzania is a year-round safari destination, but different months offer different advantages, from the Great Migration and classic dry-season game viewing to green landscapes, excellent birding and quieter parks. There is no single Tanzania safari price. Your cost depends on the number of travellers and safari days, season, parks visited, accommodation level, private or shared travel, the safari vehicle, internal flights, activities and any Zanzibar extension. We recommend planning around your total travel budget and priorities rather than the lowest advertised price.

On Safari
Safari areas are well-established tourism destinations, and reputable operators plan journeys with guest safety in mind. Your guide will explain how to behave around wildlife and what to do in different situations. Look for experienced professional guides, properly maintained vehicles, reliable accommodation, sensible route planning, clear communication and support throughout your journey.

Zanzibar
Zanzibar can be visited throughout much of the year. Generally, June to October offers a popular combination of sunshine and comfortable conditions, while December to March is typically hot and tropical. If you are combining safari and Zanzibar, we plan both parts of your journey together.
